Job Summary

Reporting to the Grounds Supervisor, the Grounds Laborer performs trash and debris collection, in addition to entry level groundskeeping tasks, supporting the landscape and grounds team as needed. Planting bed and landscape clean-up, weed pulling, some flower planting, collection of trash, cardboard bailing and recycling.

This position is represented for purposes of collective bargaining by the Teamsters.

 

Job Duties

  • 55% - Gather and remove litter throughout campus, including cardboard. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Rake (mulch, and prune) the grounds as needed. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Clean, relocate, and or place exterior furniture as directed by Grounds Supervisor. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Trim shrubs and pull weeds. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Mow lawn, trims and edges around walks, flowerbeds, etc. - (Essential)
  • % - Plants flowers, grass, trees, and other foliage. - (Essential)

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid California driver’s license and clean DMV record.
  • Some grounds/laborer experience.
  • Able to work outdoors with inclement weather, able to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and have a pleasant and positive team attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong commitment to a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies. Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively in high-volume, high accountability environment with multiple and changing priorities.
  • Effective organizational, logistical, time management and planning skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously, prioritize and fulfill the functions of an office in a timely manner. Ability to self-motivate and work independently

 

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE:  The starting base hourly rate for this position is $17.28/hr. After 12 months, the base hourly rate increases to $17.57/hr. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
