Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Human Resources Director for Benefits, the Benefits Specialist coordinates benefits related tasks. Implements, maintains, and coordinates designated Human Resources projects and programs as directed and provides administrative support for efficient office operations.
Job Duties
- 30% - Oversees the reconciliation and processing of benefit premium invoices (includes medical, dental, vision, basic life, supplemental life, flexible spending care, supplemental benefits, auxiliary benefits, pet care and COBRA). - (Essential)
- 20% - Benefit enrollments and deductions set-up in Banner Payroll system and online benefit administration system. - (Essential)
- 10% - TIAA 403(b) Retirement Plan Reconciliations and Remittance. - (Essential)
- 10% - Coordinates employee leave and adjusts payroll as needed. - (Essential)
- 10% - Administers tuition benefit programs, including Tuition Remission and Tuition Exchange. - (Essential)
- 10% - Assists in answering employee benefit inquiries and coordinates with the broker to resolve issues when necessary. - (Essential)
- 5% - Coordinates wellness events and programs, including open enrollment. - (Essential)
- 5% - Assists in developing benefits and wellness communications, as well as other projects as assigned. - (Marginal)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related field to position responsibilities.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3 years of general office/administrative support experience in a Human Resources Department.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in benefits administration working with technology tools such as an ERP or Benefit Administration System.
- Demonstrated ability to manage benefits related data in an ERP or Benefit Administration System. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
- Strong commitment to a quality work product.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.
- Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies. Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, inclusion & diversity.
- Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively in high-volume, high accountability, confidential environment with multiple and changing priorities.
- Effective organizational, logistical, time management and planning skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously, prioritize and fulfill the functions of an office in a timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish/English.
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $28.37/hr-$30.30/hr
If you are offered this position at Occidental College, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, experience, and/or geographic location. In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
