Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, the Athletic Trainer assists with executing the duties and responsibilities of providing exceptional athletic training related medical services for Oxy’s varsity student-athletes participating on 20 NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports teams in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).

 

Job Duties

  • 70% - Direct student-athlete care, including: design and implement effective and high-quality programs for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries and illnesses; educate and counsel student-athletes about their injuries and illnesses; provide medical services, including urgent and emergency care, during practices and competitions; apply protective taping, bracing, and padding for student-athletes; execute all processes related to student-athlete medical clearances; travel with teams for away competitions, as deemed necessary by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Administrative responsibilities, including: execute the daily operations in the athletic training room and the services provided by the sports medicine staff; coordinate referrals to appropriate medical providers and specialists; maintain timely and accurate documentation relating to student-athlete medical records, sports medicine services, and athletic training room functions; coordinate and process insurance claims related to intercollegiate injuries; communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with sports medicine staff, team physicians, coaches, administrators, and other Athletics department staff; communicate with parents, when necessary; provide timely updates to coaches regarding the status on, and treatment plans for, student-athletes; - (Essential)
  • 10% - Enforce safety procedures; ensure the maintenance of the athletic training room; including cleaning, disinfecting, and organizing all equipment, tools, and furnishings; manage inventory; order and organize supplies and equipment; serve on Athletics department and College groups and committees, as deemed appropriate by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine; participate in continuing education opportunities; maintain good standing with the NATA Board of Certification; perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. - (Essential)

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, kinesiology, exercise science, sports medicine or other fields related to position responsibilities.
  • National Athletic Trainer Association certification in good standing.
  • Current CPR & AED certification.
  • Possession of an in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Some experience in college level sports and athletics.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of, and ability to implement, the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply and comply with the rules and regulations of the College, the SCIAC conference, and NCAA Division III.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and organize data, and present findings in a comprehensible manner for different audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong commitment to a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies.  Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, inclusion & diversity.
  • Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively in high-volume, high accountability, confidential environment with multiple and changing priorities.
  • Effective organizational, logistical, time management and planning skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously, prioritize and fulfill the functions of an office in a timely manner.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and training, and to work effectively and professionally across functions, disciplines, levels, and with diverse groups. Ability to analyze, synthesize and organize data, and present findings in a comprehensible manner for different audiences.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in athletic training, sports medicine, exercise science, kinesiology or related fields.
  • Two years of athletic training experience at the collegiate level.

 

EXPECTED HIRING RATE:  $66,560/yr
