Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean, the Senior Assistant Dean leads the campus visit team, helping to maintain the highest level of service for campus visitors. The role is responsible for the planning and execution of on-campus recruitment programs for counselors, prospective students, and admitted students and families. This includes the management of multiple flagship admission events each year, partnering with academic and co-curricular departments, sharing academic and departmental updates, programs, and features with the entire enrollment team. This role dean also oversees virtual admission programming. including development of a monthly schedule of virtual information sessions, scheduling presenters, and design and scheduling of other kinds of virtual panels and programs. As a member of the team of admission officers, visits high schools and community-based organizations around the country for information sessions, college fairs, workshops, and other programming and is responsible for the management of assigned geographic territories both in and out-of-state. The Senior Assistant Dean also serves as the point person for our fine arts department and manages the review of applicant Slideroom submissions.
Job Duties
- 20% - Coordinate large scale admission events. These events often have between 250-400 attendees per day and their management and successful implementation is expected to be one of the largest priorities for this position. Oversee all contracts and requests with on and off-campus vendors in support of each on-campus event. - (Essential)
- 10% - Coordinate admitted student programming, including coordinating class visits with faculty. - (Essential)
- 5% - Manage all virtual admission programming, including online information sessions, virtual college fairs, and video creation. - (Essential)
- 20% - Manage assigned geographic territories, including significant travel locally and out of state. Some evening and weekend work is required, as well as willingness to work extended hours during peak periods. Maintain and develop relationships with school-based counselors and applicants at high schools and community colleges within their assigned geographic territories in order to assess invitations for college fairs and information sessions, and to build a schedule of campus visits within these regions. Utilize technology and our admission database to identify target audiences, facilitate communication, and compile reports as it relates to territory and event management. - (Essential)
- 15% - Evaluate first-year and transfer applications. - (Essential)
- 10% - Serve in the rotation of the admission officer (AO) of the day in order to present information sessions and answer questions of prospective students and families visiting campus for tours, emailing with questions, or calling the Office of Admission to speak with an admission counselor. - (Essential)
- 15% - Partner with the sr. assistant dean responsible for managing the Senior Fellows program, providing leadership and support for all training and project integration within the admission team. Support the Admission Summer Internship Program, by assisting with the hiring, training, and supervision of each cohort of summer interns. - (Essential)
- 5% - Serve as the point person with the following academic departments: Theater, Art & Art History, and Music departments. Coordinate the submission and evaluation of supplemental materials along with assisting in any recruitment and yield programming, with the academic departments. - (Essential)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, communication, marketing or other fields related to position responsibilities.
- Three years of progressively responsible experience in undergraduate higher education and a demonstrated understanding of a residential liberal arts experience.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for interacting with students and families from a wide range of backgrounds. Demonstrated growth mindset and comfort in facilitating conversations on race, gender, and socio-economic status and the ability to manage up.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to maintain institutional confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy. Strong commitment to a quality work product.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $68,640/yr-$80,000/yr
If you are offered this position at Occidental College, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, experience, and/or geographic location. In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
