Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Technology Services / Chief Technology Officer, the IT Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for the design, deployment, administration, and optimization of the College’s core infrastructure, with a primary focus on wireless and campus network administration. The IT Infrastructure Administrator supports server systems, infrastructure services, cybersecurity, and related technology projects. Additionally, working as part of a small IT team supporting approximately 2,000 students and 600+ faculty and staff, requiring a broad range of technical skills and the ability to operate independently in a dynamic environment. The IT Infrastructure Administrator contributes to maintaining reliable, secure, and high-performing technology services across the campus.
Job Duties
- 40% - Wireless Network Administration - Design, deploy, configure, and maintain the campus wireless network infrastructure, including Aruba access points, controllers, and management platforms (Aruba Central, AirWave, or equivalent). Conduct wireless site surveys, RF heat mapping, and coverage analysis to optimize performance across indoor and outdoor campus environments. Monitor wireless network health, troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues, and tune RF parameters including channel assignments, power levels, band steering, and client association behavior. Manage wireless authentication and access control using 802.1X, RADIUS, and network access control platforms (e.g., Aruba ClearPass). Plan and execute wireless expansion projects, including outdoor deployments in quads, courtyards, and athletic facilities. Maintain documentation of wireless infrastructure including AP placement maps, configuration standards, and SSID architecture. - (Essential)
- 30% - Campus Network Administration - Contributes to the administration of the campus LAN/WAN infrastructure including managed switches, routers, firewalls, and VPN concentrators. Configure and maintain VLANs, inter-VLAN routing, DHCP scopes, DNS, and network segmentation policies. Monitor network performance using SNMP, syslog, flow analysis, and network management tools; proactively identify and resolve issues. Manage campus firewall rules, ACLs, and security policies; participate in vulnerability assessments and remediation. Maintain and expand campus fiber and copper infrastructure; coordinate with facilities and contractors on cable plant projects. Support VoIP / Unified Communications systems as needed. - (Essential)
- 15% - Systems Administration (Secondary Focus) - Administer Linux and Windows server environments, including installation, patching, hardening, and performance monitoring. Manage virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere) and associated storage infrastructure. Administer identity and access management systems including Active Directory, LDAP, Entra ID, and SSO/SAML integrations. Manage backup and disaster recovery systems; test and validate recovery procedures. Support enterprise application infrastructure as needed in coordination with application administrators. - (Essential)
- 15% - Security, Projects & Collaboration - Contribute to campus information security initiatives including policy development, incident response, and security awareness. Lead ITS technical representative for data infrastructure projects including new building construction, renovations, and technology refresh cycles. Create and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles. Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support for complex network and systems issues. Collaborate with other ITS staff, academic departments, and campus partners to support institutional technology goals. Serve on institutional committees and working groups as assigned (e.g., AI Council, security working group). Other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, professional certifications, and progressive, relevant work experience.
- Three years of hands-on experience in systems administration, including enterprise wireless deployment and management.
- Demonstrated experience configuring and troubleshooting managed switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless controllers in a production environment.
- Experience administering Linux and Windows server operating systems in enterprise environments.
- Experience using network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as packet capture tools, SNMP polling systems, syslog analysis tools, and RF site survey software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HPE Aruba wireless products, including Aruba access points (indoor and outdoor models), Mobility Controllers, and Aruba Central cloud management.
- Experience with Aruba ClearPass for network access control, guest provisioning, and policy enforcement.
Aruba certifications, such as Aruba Certified Mobility Associate (ACMA) / Aruba Certified Associate–Campus Access (ACA-CA), Aruba Certified Mobility Professional (ACMP) / Aruba Certified Professional–Campus Access (ACP-CA), or Aruba Certified Switching Associate (ACSA).
- Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) certification from CWNP.
- Experience with Wi-Fi 6 / Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) deployments, including 6 GHz channel planning and configuration.
- Experience with outdoor wireless deployments, including weatherproofing, PoE power budget planning, and directional antenna considerations.
- Experience in higher education IT environments, particularly at small or mid-sized institutions.
- Familiarity with Ellucian Banner or other higher education ERP systems.
- Experience with network segmentation for IoT devices, building management systems, or security camera networks.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent.
- Experience with iPaaS or integration platforms in an enterprise environment.
- Five or more years of progressively responsible IT infrastructure experience.
EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $82,800/yr-$97,000/yr

In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
