Job Summary

Reporting to the Trades Manager, the Plumber B safely performs tasks of moderate complexity within the plumbing trades specialty, water & waste distribution system, gas distribution, and the specialized areas of swimming pool and fountain operation and maintenance.

This position is represented for purposes of collective bargaining by Teamsters.

 

Job Duties

  • 45% - Uses a variety of hand tools (e.g. pliers, screwdriver, plunger), power hand tools (e.g. drill, reciprocating saw) and specialized power tools (e.g. snake, die cutter) to perform all the basic duties related to maintenance, repair and installation of the plumbing trades specialty including water, waste distribution and natural gas distribution. - (Essential)
  • 40% - Troubleshoots and analyzes problems of moderate to high complexity with some guidance and direction from higher level plumber(s). Plumbing duties include clearing lines of debris, change out of bathroom fixtures, kitchen appliances, valves, flush valves, hot water tanks, gas line connections, and installation of new piping in copper, black pipe or PVC. Performs basic duties in swimming pool and fountain operation and maintenance. Basic duties include cleaning, adjusting valves and distribution for proper heat and pH values, and adding chemicals for proper balance. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assists senior level plumber on the more complex tasks such as backflow prevention devices and gas meter connection. At times, may work together with other trades on complicated repairs or system replacements. At times, may work together with other trades on complicated repairs or system replacements. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Prepares work order and purchase order requests. Maintain routine maintenance logs and records. Document maintenance and repair activities using the Department work order system. Keep track of your own labor, materials and supplies used and report these on a timely and accurate basis. - (Essential)

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Plumbing trade certificate(s) of training.
  • Four years of experience in the plumbing trades.
  • Must have extensive experience cleaning, repairing and servicing all types of interior and exterior drains, including clay, plastic and cast iron.
  • Must have experience freezing pipe 3/8"-3".
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commercial lavatories and fixtures.
  • Ability to read blueprints for the trade.
  • Demonstrated ability to size and estimate plumbing systems; braze; work with fuse seal pipe and fittings; solder copper pipe 1/4"-3".
  • Extensive experience cleaning, repairing and servicing all types of interior and exterior drains, including clay, plastic and cast iron.
  • Demonstrated experience freezing pipe 3/8"-3".
  • Demonstrated skill using a variety of hand tools (e.g. pliers, screwdriver, plunger), power hand tools (e.g. drill, reciprocating saw) and specialized power tools (e.g. snake, die cutter).
  • Proficiency in Google/Microsoft Office applications applicable to position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: The starting base hourly rate for this position is $32.94/hr. After 6 months, the base hourly rate increases to $33.40/hr, and after 12 months, the base hourly rate increases to $33.98/hr.
