Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Teaching, Learning and Research Support, the Library Assistant will provide support across three key areas: Teaching, Learning, and Research Support (TLRS); Collections, Systems, and Services (CSS); and Special Collections & College Archives. This position offers graduate students pursuing their MLIS degree an opportunity to gain professional experience through hands-on learning, including project work, digital material creation, and collection processing.
Job Duties
- 50% - Assist in creating digital learning objects to enhance information literacy instruction within the Teaching, Learning, and Research Support (TLRS) area. Observe librarians and contribute to lesson planning and classroom instruction. Assist in identifying collection development strategies that align with faculty needs. - (Essential)
- 35% - Support Special Collections instruction by retrieving and handling materials, as well as assisting with the processing of archival collections. - (Essential)
- 15% - Assist the acquisitions, interlibrary loan, and cataloging specialists in their respective functions. - (Essential)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in library arts, education, communication or related fields and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Enrollment in an MLIS program and completed a minimum of one cataloging course.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
- Strong commitment to a quality work product.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.
- Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, inclusion & diversity.
- Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively in high-volume, high accountability, confidential environment with multiple and changing priorities.
- Effective organizational, logistical, time management and planning skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously, prioritize and fulfill the functions of an office in a timely manner.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an academic or research library.
EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $22.00/hr-$25.00/hr
