Job Summary
Reporting to a member of the senior enrollment leadership, the Strategic Enrollment Analyst plays a key role in advancing data-informed decision-making within the Division of Enrollment. The analyst is responsible for collecting, extracting, and analyzing enrollment data; identifying patterns and trends; preparing high-level reports; and communicating insights to support strategic initiatives across the division.
As a Technolutions Slate superuser, the analyst serves as a core member of the Slate Operations Team, developing custom reports for admission staff and designing queries to answer complex research questions. The analyst contributes to the effective design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of system tools and resources that help staff understand student behavior, monitor recruitment trends, and improve outreach strategies.
The analyst also acts as a liaison to the Office of Institutional Research, collaborating on survey design, data analysis, and ensuring alignment in data definitions and methodologies across departments. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, analytical acumen, and strategic thinking to support the college’s enrollment goals.
Job Duties
- 25% - Designing, constructing and maintaining systems for data reporting and sharing purposes using relational databases and appropriate software (Tableau, Excel, Technolutions, etc). Extracting data from operational systems for inclusion in databases and reports. Maintaining a schedule of reports with due dates, delegation of responsibilities, and dates completed. - (Essential)
- 20% - Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research, complete questionnaires and surveys for enrollment and retention data for external agencies and data exchange efforts. Design and implement effective survey instruments, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and data integrity standards. Identify and incorporate reliable external data sources and surveys to enhance the robustness of the collected data. Analyze survey results to derive actionable insights and present findings to stakeholders to inform decision-making processes. - (Essential)
- 20% - Collaborate with the Slate Team to effectively design, implement, and maintain system tools and resources that aim to provide staff with data-informed insights into student behavior and recruitment trends. - (Marginal)
- 15% - Collaborate with senior enrollment leadership to support the work of the admission operations team. Provide guidance and training to admission staff related to Technolutions and its various functions. - (Marginal)
- 10% - Provide regular comprehensive system support for admission-related platforms, primarily, Technolutions Slate. Manage data integration ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and reliability, and adherence to data definitions. Engage in the design, implementation, and upkeep of tailored queries, reports, and other data solutions used on a regular basis. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a field related to educational research, statistics, business intelligence, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Training, background and proficiency with research design, data collection and analysis.
- Detailed understanding of how to pull data from a relational database, then analyze and report data and information for strategic decision making.
- Experience using statistical software (SAS, SPSS, etc.), work with data dictionaries and use computer applications relevant to enrollment management (Slate, Banner, etc.). Experience working with complex files/tables.
- Experience working both independently and as a team member, exercise consistent discretion and judgment.
- Knowledge of cultural competency; ability to engage in strategic thinking and demonstrate strong organizational abilities; and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral) with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for interacting with students and families from diverse backgrounds, strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach to decision-making, the ability to work autonomously, and a commitment to customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to uphold institutional confidentiality.
- Experience in an academic setting with an understanding of a residential liberal arts education will be valued in the selection process.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a field related to educational research, statistics, business intelligence, or another closely related field, such as higher education management, psychometrics, assessment or management information systems.
- Experience with developing and maintaining dashboards for key performance measurements.
- Knowledge of and experience working with Tableau Software for interactive data visualization.
- Experience working within enrollment management and developing/maintaining systems for delivery of information and decision support, including systems such as Slate, Banner or similar.
- Experience working in post-secondary education settings, with familiarity or background in small liberal arts colleges.
- Demonstrated commitment to integrity, consistency, and accuracy in data reporting and analysis.
- Proven ability to develop and implement creative, effective solutions to complex problems.
EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $68,640/yr-$80,000/yr
If you are offered this position at Occidental College, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, experience, and/or geographic location. In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
