Job Summary

Reporting to the Head Baseball Coach, Strength Conditioning, the Assistant Baseball Coach/Recruitment Coordinator/PHAC will support the daily operations of the baseball program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to coaching, practice and game preparation, scheduling, strength and conditioning, scouting, practice planning, budget development and oversight, fundraising, equipment purchasing and maintenance, coordinating and supervising team travel, and actively monitoring the personal, academic, and athletic development of student-athletes.

 

Job Duties

  • 40% - Coaching and Program Support - Assist the Head Coach in the execution of practices, strength and conditioning sessions, game-day preparations, scouting, and in-game support. Help with implementation of team strategies and skill development activities. - (Essential)
  • 30% - Recruitment Coordination - Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes, coordinate recruitment communications, and organize on-campus visits. Ensure all recruitment activities align with NCAA, SCIAC, and institutional regulations. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Compliance and Policy Enforcement - Adhere to and enforce the policies and procedures of Occidental College and Occidental Athletics, as well as the rules and regulations of the NCAA and SCIAC. Educate student athletes on compliance requirements and ensure institutional integrity. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Student-Athlete Development - Monitor and support the academic, personal, and athletic development of student-athletes. Create a positive and inclusive team culture that aligns with the mission of the college. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Departmental Engagement and Representation - Attend departmental meetings and college functions deemed essential. Representing Occidental Athletics in a manner consistent with its core values and institutional mission. - (Essential)

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in athletics, sports management, training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of competitive experience as a coach.
  • A strong commitment to the academic achievement of student athletes, good communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work amiably with students, administrators, and faculty within the rules and regulations of the College, the SCIAC Conference, and the NCAA Division III.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google
    drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any
    combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing
    potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy. Strong
    commitment to a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically. Effective
    interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, inclusion & diversity.
  • Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively in high-volume, high
    accountability, confidential environment with multiple and changing priorities. Effective
    organizational, logistical, time management and planning skills with the ability to manage and
    prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously, prioritize and fulfill the functions of an office in a
    timely manner.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and training, and to work effectively and professionally
    across functions, disciplines, levels, and with diverse groups.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of college coaching experience, some of which was at the collegiate level.

 

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE:  $57,200/yr

If you are offered this position at Occidental College, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, experience, and/or geographic location. In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.  We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
