Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Advancement Services, the Salesforce Technical Solution Engineer/Developer focuses on the functional use, design, and operational optimization of Salesforce technology solutions tailored for higher education, including the Education Cloud and associated tools such as Marketing Cloud Account Engagement, CRM Analytics, third-party integrations, and more. This role collaboratively shapes and executes a new vision for advancement operations, spanning various critical aspects including gift processing, reporting, prospect research, donor relations, marketing and communications, constituent management, and the alumni experience on Experience Cloud (both public pages and gated portals).

 

Job Duties

  • 75% - Database Development & Administration - Serve as a system administrator and developer of institutional advancements CRM, Salesforce's Education Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Experience Cloud, Sales Engagement, CRM Analytics, Salesforce Shield, and other third part and integration tools. Deploy Expert Knowledge Solutioning with Salesforce Declarative Features including but not limited to: Standard and Custom Object Setup, Record Type Configuration, Flows, Page Layouts, Lightning Pages, Dynamic Forms, Approval Processes, Profiles and Permission Sets, Role Hierarchy, Sharing Rules, Duplicate Rules, Support Processes, Next Best Action, Quick Actions, Asynchronous Flows, Scheduled Jobs, Reports and Dashboards. Demonstrated experience in software development lifecycles (design, develop, modify, debug, deploy) and evaluating complex applications for functional areas. Conducts business process review and analysis; implements business process improvement to streamline services and create efficiencies and improve the user experience. With the MSABI, develop the feature roadmap and own the development, testing, and delivery of features to facilitate continuous technology improvement. Perform system checks. With the Manager, Salesforce Administrator, and Business Intelligence establish and execute data hygiene strategy. Manage and maintain data integrations between Salesforce and on-prem Banner solutions (Finance, HR, Student) to ensure the expected and appropriate flow of data between the systems. Support ongoing documentation of the system's functions for front end users, portal end users, and back-end users. Interprets users’ business needs and translates them into application and operational requirements. Configures information systems to support and enhance business processes. Designs and develops database objects (datamarts, functions, views, tables, packages, etc.). Delivers practical and innovative solutions to software challenges. Demonstrated experience in planning, developing, modifying, debugging, deploying, and evaluating complex applications for functional areas. Organize work using a software development methodology - (Essential)
  • 15% - Analytics and Business Intelligence - Designs and develops operational and statistical dashboards/reports using Salesforce-native solutions, including CRM Analytics. Builds predictive models and scoring using Intelligence for Education Cloud. Works with the Salesforce Administrator, Business Analyst(s) and end-users to define reporting and business analysis needs and to develop appropriate information access strategies. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Staff Training & Professional Development - Participate in administrator and developer trainings and working groups offered by the Salesforce ecosystem related to Education Cloud, fundraising products, leveraged third-party solutions and integrations. Experience in the management of ongoing updates and new features on the Salesforce platform, to include the identification and integration of suitable emerging technologies. Report out findings from professional development trainings. Design and lead user training and workshops. - (Essential)

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field, or demonstrated equivalent training or technical experience.
  • Certification or demonstrable expertise in platform administration, programming tools and computer science languages including two or more of the following or related certifications: Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I, Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II, Salesforce Certified Administrator, Salesforce Certified Advanced Administrator, Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder, Marketing Cloud Administrator, or Tableau Data Engineer.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS is also beneficial.
  • Five to seven years progressively developing proficiency with data management and report writing techniques.
  • Applied experience in fundraising, accounting, or higher education.
  • Experience with process-driven data quality control.
  • Experience participating in change management technique and software lifecycle management. Proven ability to contribute to a product roadmap and project management leadership experience. Experience transforming verbal and written system requirements for end users, UI/UX and business requirements into systems enhancements and customized solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and organize data, and present findings in a comprehensible manner for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong commitment to a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in data management, analysis, statistics, or computer science.
  • Experience leading with process-driven data quality control.
  • Experience leading in change management technique and software lifecycle management.
  • Proven ability to lead product roadmap and project management leadership experience.

 

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE:  $90,000 - $95,000/yr

If you are offered this position at Occidental College, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, experience, and/or geographic location. In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.  We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
